I suggest thinking beyond just the aesthetic and also consider the scale and proportion of your room and the other furniture sharing the space. Scale is so important when choosing the right furniture. If you use furniture that is too small or too large for your room, the whole space feels unbalanced. A good rule of thumb for choosing the right size coffee table, is the table should be roughly about 2/3 the length of your sofa. Another thing to consider is visual weight.
