Choosing the perfect coffee table can be a daunting task. I suggest thinking beyond just the aesthetic and also consider the scale and proportion of your room and the other furniture sharing the space. Scale is so important when choosing the right furniture. If you use furniture that is too small or too large for your room, the whole space feels unbalanced. A good rule of thumb for choosing the right size coffee table, is the table should be roughly about 2/3 the length of your sofa. Another thing to consider is visual weight. If your sofa is slipcovered down to the floor, a coffee table with legs will balance it out. If most of your furniture has exposed legs, selecting a solid coffee table will help ground the space. Of course these rules can be broken but it is important to balance the proportions so your rooms doesn’t feel like its floating or heavy.
