When I envisioned my mini library build I wanted gorgeous picture lighting to illuminate my books and mementos. So This weekend, I decided to tackle installing picture lights on my bookcases. It turned out to be a super easy project and took less than 15 minutes to install! If you are looking to add picture lighting to your home without calling the electrician read on.

I spent lots of time researching different lighting options from hard-wired to plug-ins. Originally, I purchased this plug-in-style picture light but ended up returning them as I didn’t want to mess with drilling holes and routing the cords so they were unseen. I finally landed on a $37 wireless picture light from Amazon that has a remote control(no more fighting over who has to turn off the light, I can control these lights from the bed). The great thing about the wireless option is it can be used anywhere and installs in minutes!
Each light comes with a removable backplate with a built-in level for easy install, hanging hardware, and the remote(you will need three AA batteries per light).
I removed the backplate from the lights(it just slides on and off) and placed it on the spot where I intended on hanging the lights. Using a pencil, I marked where the screw holes will be after making sure it was level. I drilled the two screws that came with the lights into the board(drywall anchors are included if you are installing on a wall), slid the backplate back on the lights, and then hung them on the screws. It was that easy!

I love that these lights are dimmable or you can choose one of two brightness levels with the click of a button (50% or 100%). The lights can also be adjusted between warm white, nature white, and cool white. There is also an energy-saving timer feature that you can preset a timer to turn off lights after 15, 30, 60, or 120 minutes.

I couldn’t be happier with these affordable picture lights! This is a project that is perfect for beginners or those that feel very comfortable with DIY projects. I tackled my lights 7 months pregnant!
