At the end of 2021, I started shopping at Costco and that is when I realized I had a big problem. I had nowhere to put my monthly haul!
My pantry is a decent size but it only had four 12” deep wire shelves and we used up that space pretty quickly. This year, I decided I needed to focus on storage since we are bringing a new baby home in just a few months. So, at the end of my second trimester, I got to work on giving our pantry a refresh.

And then the wire shelving.
I marked out where the studs were and created a grid to see how many shelves I could fit (I did six 16” deep shelves since my ceilings are 9’). I used 1x2’s for the side supports, screwing them into the studs so they are really strong.
Next, I used more 1x2’s for the back supports. Again, screwing them into the studs so they are really strong (I spaced about 16” between each support).
Once the supports were in, it was time for shelving. I used two 1x8 boards and cut a 1” board piece (8” boards are actually 7.5”, hence the extra piece to make it 16”) for each shelf.

I applied some wood glue to keep the boards in place while I nailed them into the supports.

I finally added the front-facing trim board, just a simple 1x3 to cover up the supports and make it look prettier.
I painted the shelving white but I didn’t love it…
So, I painted everything green with leftover paint from my Easy IKEA Billy Bookcase Built-In Hack.
I applied a wax to seal the paint and then organized my Costco haul.

I added my favorite puck lights (I have these under my kitchen cabinets) for when I have a late-night craving and more storage to finish off the space. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to wallpaper the back wall. You won’t really see it unless my stock begins to run low so I am leaning towards saving wallpaper for the laundry room update I am planning.
