Today I am sharing a video tutorial for a DIY end-of-summer potted planter. I love this project so much! It’s super easy to do and will last a really long time if cared for properly. I used Arqlite’s Smart Gravel to improve plant and root health by providing optimal drainage in these pots(plus it makes your planters so much lighter).
I picked up a couple of planters from Target and added my Smart Gravel as the base to improve my plant and root health by ensuring proper drainage. I love that it also makes my planters so much lighter so I can move them around with no trouble at all! I then covered the Smart Gravel with good soil.
I choose the plants I used based on the big three categories, thriller, spiller, and filler. I was drawn to the purple petunias immediately and knew I wanted them to be the star. I added a pretty veronica plant for its tall spikes, my favorite flower to grow, zinnias to fill out and balance the other plants, cute yellow lantana plant, and variegated vinca that will also spill over the edges for more interest.
This was such an easy project and was completed in no time at all but really makes an impact! I can’t wait to watch these plants fill out my pots and I am sure they will be super healthy with the help of Smart Gravel (good drainage is so important, especially here in the PNW as we get soo much rain).
