Project: Small Guest Bathroom Makeover

Today, I am sharing with you a little project I was working on earlier this year. Our guest bathroom remodel!

This bathroom had an awkward layout that didn’t work for our family. The original shower protruded into Abby’s already small bedroom and the double sink was not really needed here. So I went to work, changing the layout and created a clean, modern guest bathroom on a budget. As a bonus Abby’s bedroom reclaimed that useful space once again. Read on to see a photo tour of the process.

Before the remodel.

Can you see the shower in the back right corner??

The vanity was very nice but too large for the space. I planned on selling it to recoup some of the budget but I ended up dropping the counter top outside and made a big crack in it. Lesson learned, don’t be like me and ask for help.

Taking the shower out was no fun at all! I had to use a saw to cut it into small pieces just to get it out of the bathroom. I’m pretty sure there was fiberglass in my hair for days afterwards.

Progress picked up after I got that shower out!

Demo was messy but fun!

Hi Ally!

This is the wall where the shower used to sit. It stuck out into Abby’s already small room so I removed that too!

The walls were pretty solid and took forever to get it all down.

My cat loved jumping down into the basement from the plumbing hole. But I got it all patched up nicely. Sorry Quesa kitty…

I had a couple of “indoor fountains” in here because I forgot to shut off the main water while cutting and removing these pipes. Lesson learned, again…

This looks safe… Luckily Abby was staying with Grandma for a couple weeks.

I wanted to see if I made the right decision on the tile I choose. I picked a winner! Seriously, run don’t walk over to Lowes and get some!

Already looking so fresh and so clean!!

Big jump in progress thanks to some outside help from Butterfield Trail Construction. Window was centered on the back wall, plumbing lines moved and the bathtub and sheetrock was installed.

That yellow means tile is up next!

We chose affordable white subway tile for a classic, clean look.

Aren’t these floor tiles a thing of beauty? Originally I wanted handmade cement tiles but then I found these ceramic ones that mimic the same look for so much less.

Tile flooring installed, walls textured and painted. This makes my heart very happy. On a side note, painting textured walls is the worst!

New floating sink vanity installed and ready to go once I put the last drawer in.

I added new towel bars and an oval mirror to complete the look.

The bathroom feels so bright and clean. Check out that new toilet too!

The bathrooms footprint is still very small so its hard to get a good shot without a tripod. I will update the photos once I get a new one as these photos don’t do this bathroom justice.
